THE ANDROID PHONE : HTC DREAM

March 21st, 2008 Mike Hornet Posted in ANDROID, GOOGLE No Comments »

It was reported today on PC World that HTC Android phone is known as the HTC Dream:

htc_dream.jpggoogleandroid.jpg

” The mobile phone High Tech Computer (HTC) has been developing to run on the Android software from Google will be called “Dream,” have a large touchscreen and full QWERTY keypad, a person close to the situation said Thursday.

HTC may become the first handset maker in the world to put out a mobile phone developed around Android, but it faces stiff competition from Samsung, a separate source said. Samsung has stepped up its effort to put out a Google phone, the person said.

HTC’s Google handset is just over 5-inches long and 3-inches wide, with a keypad underneath the screen that either slides out or swivels out. The aim of the keypad is for easy e-mail, note-taking and writing Web addresses.

Internet navigational controls are situated below the screen on the handset.

The handset will likely hit the market near the end of this year, the person said.

The company officially remained mum on the handset.

“We cannot comment on this product,” said Maggie Cheng, an HTC representative.

Last November, HTC became the first company to admit to developing a mobile phone based on Android, although Samsung, Motorola and other handset developers are part of the group dedicated to furthering the software, theOpen Handset Alliance.

Android, an open source software platform that includes an OS, is designed to take advantage of Internet services for mobility. The software could become a potent new rival to Windows Mobile and other handset operating systems. At the launch ceremony, Google announced that over 30 companies had joined the Open Handset Alliance. “

YAHOO IS FOR THE POOR … GOOGLE IS FOR THE RICH

February 18th, 2008 Mike Hornet Posted in GOOGLE, YAHOO No Comments »

IF YOU DON’T HAVE A GMAIL ACCOUNT YET, BETTER DO SO NOW TO UP YOUR IMAGE.

GMAIL IS THE “VERSACE” OF ONLINE EMAIL ACCOUNTS.

pooryahoo-richgoogle.JPG

According to HitWise:

“I created the following Lifestyle Quadrant Analysis to compare the online audience of Google.com and Yahoo! Search.

The figure summarizes the audience strengths and weaknesses for the two search engines. Visits by MOSAIC Group to Search.Yahoo.com are plotted on the y-axis and to Google.com on the x-axis. For example, the top left hand box indicates unique strengths for Yahoo! Search, in that they are groups that are over-indexed relative to the online population on Yahoo! Search but under-indexed on Google.com. The bigger the bubble the higher the propensity to have spent $500 online (based on offline data collected by Experian).

As you can see Google’s relative audience strengths - i.e. the groups over-indexed on Google.com relative to the online population - are those that are among the most likely to have spent more than $500 online. This indicates that Google users are more likely to be big online spenders.

GOOGLE MAPS WITH MY LOCATION…AND WITHOUT GPS

December 6th, 2007 Mike Hornet Posted in GOOGLE, PDA PHONES, SMARTPHONES, SOFTWARE 2 Comments »

NO GPS ON YOUR PHONE … NO WORRY
GOOGLE MAPS TO THE RESCUE !

Google Maps works with the following devices:

  • Most Java-enabled (J2ME) mobile phones.
  • Palm devices with Palm OS 5 and above.
  • All color BlackBerry devices.
  • Windows Mobile devices with Windows Mobile 2003, 5.0 and above.
  • Symbian Series 60 3rd edition devices.

googlemaps.JPG

See your location on the map, with or without GPS. Save time and tedious keystrokes finding where you are, what’s around you, and how to get there.

Press “0″ and look for the blue dot:      or

If you have a GPS-enabled device, this blue dot corresponds to your GPS location. At times, or if you do not have a GPS-enabled phone, you might see the blue dot surrounded by a light blue circle (as shown on the right) to indicate uncertainty about your location.

Why the uncertainty? The My Location feature takes information broadcast from mobile towers near you to approximate your current location on the map - it’s not GPS, but it comes pretty close (approximately 1000m close, on average).

The My Location feature is available for most web-enabled mobile phones, including Java, BlackBerry, Windows Mobile, and Nokia/Symbian devices.

*10 YEARS = 10 TIMES MORE : Sounds logical.

Read the breaking news from TechShout :

Today InstaColl, an Indian software product company announced the launch of a hybrid online-offline Office suite of applications called Live Documents. This revolutionary product supports documents, spreadsheets and presentations in all formats, embracing and extending Microsoft’s ubiquitous Office product to the browser. Senior InstaColl representatives including Sabeer Bhatia, and CEO Sumanth Raghavendra were present at this South Bombay event. Most know Sabeer Bhatia as the founder of Hotmail, but what some might not know is that the Bangalore-based InstaColl was also co-founded by him. InstaColl offers solutions that bridge the gap between rich desktop software apps and web-based services.Live Documents allows users to view and edit their documents within any flash-based browser on any operating system from just about anywhere.

Live Documents which was built using RIA technologies like Flash and Flex, uses a Flash-based user interface, offering a richer and more responsive user experience.Sabeer Bhatia said, “Our first step was to take email on to the browser. Now, we have done the same with Office. All aspects of computing will now be done in the sky- it’s called Cloud computing.”Besides accessing Live Documents online, this application is also available as an optional desktop client application that wraps around Office. Basically, Live Documents converts Office apps from static standalone software application to smart clients that are connected to the Internet and allow multiple people to edit a document at the same time, without requiring users to give up their familiar user interfaces. And better still is the fact that Live Documents can be accessed offline, a feature that is not available with any current online Office applications. Thus, as users are offered the choice and flexibility to work on their documents either on the desktop or on the browser and while they are online or offline, any changes made on either side are automatically synchronized to the other side. This ensures that the desktop and Web versions are always in sync sans the need for time-consuming actions like check-in/check-out, upload/download or import/export.”Live Documents is the new productivity suite for the Internet generation providing flexibility lacking in traditional software while retaining that which is important from the past and extending it with unique collaborative capabilities. I believe that Live Documents does for documents what Hotmail did for e-mail,” Sabeer Bhatia further added.Live Documents which has been developed in India over the last two years, also allows users to embed their URL into the application. Thus, blogging is also possible using this application.

As of now, Live Documents has already gone live. The best part is that it is free of cost to all, but is available only on invitation basis from here :

The commercial version will also be rolled out soon. InstaColl is planning to roll it out enterprise-wise as the biggest advantage for a company using this product would be cost-savings.

InstaColl has no plans to embed ads. “We just want people to enjoy it and tell their friends,” explained Sabeer Bhatia.

Live Documents happens to be just one of the three enterprise products that are being launched. The other two involve real-time collaboration of documents and a security product. Sabeer Bhatia certainly has done India proud, as not only has he come up with Hotmail, ApnaCircle.com, and Arzoo.com, but also works with several software companies besides working on the Nano City project in Haryana.
