THE MOBILE HORNET … for those who get turned on by mobile devices

The PDAEXPERT chain store in Malaysia has thrown in some freebies for their range of PPCs from HTC, HP, Toshiba, LG and O2.  All come with memory cards from 1GB to 4G and a few with the additional Bluetooth Headset.

You can find their Kuala Lumpur stores at MidValley, Sunway Pyramid, The Curve, Digital Mall, IOI Mall, and LowYat.  It is also available in Johor Baru at Jusco Terbau City.

 The HTC TOUCH DIAMOND variants in the form of the T-MOBILE MDA COMPACT IV and  O2 XDA DIAMOND are expected to be launched on 6 May 08.  Looks like Europe will get a taste of these new goodies first.

PROS AND CONS OF THE O2 STELLAR

The O2 Stellar is the HTC Kaiser variant, same as the HTC TyTN II.  If the O2 Stellar is placed next to the HTC TyTN II, which will you choose?

Whilst we look at the Pros and Cons of the Stellar it is well worth considering the slight differences between the O2 machine and other variants of the Kaiser design offered by other airtime carriers.

O2 have decided not to include the popular HTC Home application but do include their own O2 today applets which whilst very phone biased do offer a lot of added functionality. Remember you can always download and add the HTC Home applet if you so wish.

The enhances headset is only offered by HTC and O2 - other carriers supply the basic headset.

Spb GPRS Monitor and Sprite backup included free of charge. The later especially is a superb bonus program that can save you from disaster!

Price: Varies depending on contract Firstly let’s cover the initial technical ground with a detailed listing of the hardware specification that comprises the Stellar.

The high points for me here are the large memory (ROM : 256 MB / RAM : 128 MB SDRAM), and a fast processor (Qualcomm MSM 7200 400MHz) as these have the greatest effect on the operation of the machine. It should be noted that the Qualcomm 400Mhz processor operates approximately 50-60% faster than the corresponding 400Mhz chip from Samsung (as used in the Xda Trion), which makes for a noticeable operational speed increase. The machine positively flies compared to the Xda Trion!

MWG REPLACES O2 ASIA

That’s some good news for owners of O2 products in Asia. 

MWG is a new face in the Smart Phone market, based in Singapore, the international hub where European style and quality meets and mingles with Asian industry and innovation. MWG  aim to bring a fresh approach to mobile communications and mobile computing.

The team at MWG includes all the former management of O2 Asia.  MWG will continue to support O2 device owners and channel partners and they have inherited an exciting roadmap which we will deliver through 2008.

I wonder why MWG is not bringing in the Stellar (aka HTC Kaiser) which is so featured-rich.  Anyway expect to see MWG launching the XDA ATOM 4, XDA FLAME 2, and XDA ZINC 2 soon:

O2 UK is coming out with STELLA, their version of the TyTN II aka Kaiser.

Is that supposed to be FM radio built-in? 

Will MWG, the Asia version of O2 come out with something similar?

O2 MBO IN ASIA … YES, IT’S A MANAGEMENT BUYOUT!

European 2G and 3G carrier Telefónica O2 is exiting its device business in Asia and the current regional management team around O2 Asia’s CEO Mark Billington is taking over O2 Asia under a new name. The transition has begun already and will be completed in “a matter of months”.
